# A fresh start
Garou was a straightforward man who enjoyed the simple things life had to offer; a quality meal on his plate, a good night’ sleep and wiping the floor with any government officials he comes across.

Under normal circumstances, he is not a violent or bad person by any means whatsoever despite being a proven martial artist with a really infamous record. You see, he just can’t control himself when he sees the marine’s symbol - something very dark hidden deep within him seems to awaken when he lays eyes on it.

It may have to do with the fact that they wrongfully convicted and executed his parents when he was merely eight years of age, effectively turning him into an orphan.

It could also have been induced by Garou’s inherent anti-systemic and rebellious nature, the cause of most brawls our reckless combatant partakes in. He is, simply put, not good at following orders or understanding the chain of command. He thinks of himself as a lone wolf that does and eats as it pleases, with no regard for the feelings or safety for beings he considers to be below him.

Naturally, he would never tell you this himself. From his point of view, he is simply cheering for the underdog here; everyone wants the “popular guys” to win, to beat the heartless beings who dare think and act different from what they think is right or the norm. That is why he always identified with the revolutionaries ideals better, those who openly challenge the self-promoted righteous side and call them out on their lies.

Garou had been planning to join their cause through his own means and he had no better idea than to walk up to the nearest Marine Headquarters and steal any and all items of values he could find in order to undermine their work force. He had been secretly stationed outside the Navy’s station, surveying their security and recording the shift change schedule.

Through patient observation, he had been able to identify the weak spots of the building’ security and devised a course of action that he was about to be put into action; it was now midnight, the guard was about to change. His goal was at the very top of the building, in the third floor where a safe was rumored to exist. Within it probably laid hundred of weapons, beris but what picked Garou’s interest the most was an event that had transpired earlier on this same day - a marine officer was seen running through the entire building, a strange alien-looking fruit in his hand, calling the commanding officer of the island at the top of his lungs. Could it be a devil fruit? If so, he had to move fast before the security was tightened and the devil fruit consumed or moved. Garou suspected the fruit would be guarded within the confines of the safe.

According to his research, there should be approximately 5 guards per floor, all of them armed. The building had windows in every floor except the last one, which could be problematic as he couldn’t really get to the third floor without getting through the rest. However, the building was not that high at all and a potential escape through the windows of the second floor was feasible. During the shift, there is a window of time where the guns are handed to the next set of guards and that distraction could prove fatal for them. “I suppose this is as good a time to start as any,” he said to himself, before stretching his arms and legs. “Okay, let’s do this”

Garou picked up a handful of rocks from the ground and sprinted towards the building, his movements shrouded by the ever dark shroud of the night. “Alright, please let this work”, he prayed as his right hand rummaged his pocket, looking for the three lighters he had managed to steal during his surveillance. He had also stolen a lantern and some bags, which he thought would prove useful later on.

The plan was rather simple in nature; for some idiotic reason, the marines trainer their strength by splitting logs with an axe. An effective training method, probably, but it offered a highly dangerous by-product; wooden logs. An accumulation of logs now laid around, piled up some distance away from the main entrance. Lighting the logs on fire wouldn’t really do much other than act as a diversion, but that’s all he needed; if he could just reduce the number of enemies, that would be enough already.

In one clean sweeping movement, the lighters let out their sparks and that was all it took for a small flame to be created. As the fire was spreading through the mountain of timber, Garou took this opportunity to hide, crouched, behind the door to the entrance of the navy quarters.

He remained there for a few moments, the sound of wood burning keeping him company. It only took a few extra minutes before the marines took notice of the situation and immediately rushed outside to check what was going on. Effectively, there were now 8 marines outside, which meant the entire first floor and half of the second was cleared. Additionally, the change of guard was taking place so chaos ensued.

As he heard just one more set of feet approaching, Garou showed himself by tripping the man as he exited the building while carefully placing his own hand over the man’s mouth to muffle any sounds.

As fast as he could, he knocked the man out and carried him to the side of the building. He took the officer’s clothes and made sure to press the cap against his face to cover most of his features before proceeding into the building. The first floor was deserted, but he could still hear movement on the second floor. “Lady Luck take the wheel”

He climbed the step of stairs to the second floor, where he bumped into the remaining soldiers on the floor. “Fire! There’s a fire! We need help downstairs!, ” he screamed before proceeding to rush up the next set of stairs before he could be interrogated further. “I will warn the others!”

This seemed to work wonders, though, for the soldiers scurried downstairs without really second-guessing the instructions. “Must be the survival instincts of the weaker beings, I suppose”

This was it, though. He was about to enter the third floor, amidst the change of guard. There would be around 10 people inside the last floor but only five guns. These were probably the strongest guards available so he needed to play it right. As he arrived to the entrance of the third floor, he crouched again just outside the field of vision of the guards of the third floor. He could see now the room was somewhat narrower than the others; the door to what he guessed was the vault was positioned exactly in the middle of the room, which was illuminated by just 3 hanging lamps in total.

“Now for my final act!”

Almost instinctively, Garou pitched the rocks he had previously picked up towards the lanterns, hitting them straight on and destroying them, turning the room pitch black. Amidst the confusion, Garou proceeded to dash straight into the fray, striking the weapon holding marines first and knocking them out.

Due to the darkness, the marines didn’t know who or what was attacking them nor if the body next to them was friend or foe. This moment’s hesitation would prove critical, as Garou proceeded to strike anything that was within his range. Within a few minutes, the entire floor had been dispatched. “Hmm, I don’t think I have more than a couple of minutes before the others come back up, I better make this quick.”

Using his lantern, he was able to pick up one of the guns on the floor and shoot the door open, effectively securing his loot. He packed as many things as he could into his bags, including the weird looking fruit that was neatly placed in the center of the room. Finally, once he was done, he threw the bag over his shoulder, picked another gun and proceeded to exit the building as quickly as possible. The second and first floor were mostly clear, due to people rushing outside to help with the fire. However, he didn’t want to risk it so instead, he just shot the windows from the second floor, breaking them open before throwing the bag out first followed directly by him, landing on top of the bag which softened his fall.

“Now these guys are in trouble, let’s see how you guys do under equal conditions as the rest of us,” he whispered, escaping in the darkness as the marines finally succeeded in putting the fire out, absolutely unaware of the actual events that had transpired that night. Garou couldn’t help but chuckle to himself. “Absolute fools.”
